I’m an early-adopter, or a late early-adopter I should say. I got in the Wave last November, several months after its restricted launch, that’s why the “late.”

As soon as I knew about it I desperately wanted it! It’s an impressive piece of technology with the promise to change our lives, although so far the hype has a bit faded and it hasn’t yet been released publicly.

The Google team suggests a number of uses for the Wave, a few of which I consider very interesting and relevant to peer-learning. That is

  • Group Projects
  • Brainstorming
  • Meeting Notes

The presentation video shows quite convincingly how the Wave can be used to these purposes, but to date I couldn’t find any post, anywhere, about the actual use of a Wave in a professional setting.

I found a lot of blog posts from people who just got to use it for the first time the day before, and how enthusiastic they are about it. Many posts include the uses suggested originally by Google.

Not a single post from someone who put it to work in real life, with a real project and a real team of people. I hope I didn’t search the blogosphere well!

I have a (limited) experience with a similar tool that we are using for the Enterprise Camp, and I would like to discuss it with other people who actually DID use GoogleWave or any other tool for concurrent editing.

Our tool, the PeersPad is much simpler than the Wave, a no-frills cousin so to say, and allows for simple text editing limited to plain, bold, italic and bullet points, but the core functionalities of

  • concurrent editing and
  • individual contribution tracking

are preserved. And that’s all we need actually, since we use the PeersPad for the co-creation of the briefs in the breakout discussion groups during an Enterprise Camp.

Is there anybody who is using a concurrent editing tool with small or large groups, for any purpose?

I would love to share experiences and discuss applications and issues! There’s a great potential in these tools and it’s up to us discovering it and sharing the insights. Let me know what you think!

PS I have a few invitations to GoogleWave and I’m glad to share them with who can put me in touch with groups using GoogleWave (or any other tool for concurrent editing)

Thank you!!!!
